Sighnaghi is "a city of eternal love", built by order of the king Irakli in the XVIII century. It is located on the hill, which is surrounded by a fortified wall with 28 towers. Each tower has its own name. The loopholes in the towers are located in such way, so it was possible to aim the enemy forces at any point outside or inside of the fortress.
The city retained remarkable images of architecture of residential houses of the XIX century. Structures of buildings are presented in the style of southern Italian classicism with Georgian elements.
The town is located on the terraces, which are connected by winding steep streets. The city offers an amazing view of the Alazani Valley and Caucasian Ridge. It is possible visit historical and ethnographic museum with exhibits from the V century BC to the XIX century. The museum also houses paintings by the famous Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani.
